Understanding Հայերեն Regular Verb Conjugation
In the Armenian language, verbs are words that describe actions, like 'run' or 'jump'. Regular verbs in Armenian follow a pattern when they change form to show who is doing the action and when it is happening.
Basic Rules of Conjugation
Important Points
- Regular verbs usually end in -ել (-el) in their base form.
- To conjugate a verb, you remove the -ել (-el) ending and add different endings based on the subject and tense.
- The present tense endings are different from the past tense endings.
Present Tense Conjugation
In the present tense, we use different endings to show who is doing the action. Let's see how it works.
Important Points
- For 'I', add -ում եմ (-um em)
- For 'you (singular)', add -ում ես (-um es)
- For 'he/she/it', add -ում է (-um e)
- For 'we', add -ում ենք (-um enk)
- For 'you (plural)', add -ում եք (-um ek)
- For 'they', add -ում են (-um en)
Examples
- Խոսել (to speak): Ես խոսում եմ (I speak).
- Գրել (to write): Դու գրում ես (You write).
- Կարդալ (to read): Նա կարդում է (He/She reads).
In the past tense, we again change the endings to show who did the action.
Important Points
- For 'I', add -եցի (-etsi)
- For 'you (singular)', add -եցիր (-etsir)
- For 'he/she/it', add -եց (-ets)
- For 'we', add -եցինք (-etsink)
- For 'you (plural)', add -եցիք (-etsik)
- For 'they', add -եցին (-etsin)

- Խոսել (to speak): Ես խոսեցի (I spoke).
- Գրել (to write): Դու գրեցիր (You wrote).
- Կարդալ (to read): Նա կարդեց (He/She read).
