Understanding Comparative and Superlative Forms in Bahasa Indonesia
In Bahasa Indonesia, we use special words to compare things. These special words help us say if something is more or less than something else, or if it is the most or least of all.
When we want to compare two things, we use the word 'lebih' which means 'more'. This helps us say that one thing has more of a quality than another.
Examples
- Kucing ini lebih besar dari kucing itu.
- Buku ini lebih menarik daripada buku itu.
- Dia lebih cepat dari adiknya.
When we want to say something is the most or the least of all, we use the word 'paling' which means 'most'. This helps us show that one thing is the best, the biggest, or the most interesting of all.
Examples
- Dia adalah yang paling pintar di kelas.
- Ini adalah film paling seru yang pernah saya tonton.
- Anjing itu paling kecil di antara semuanya.
Important Points
- Use 'lebih' when comparing two things.
