Understanding Қазақша Word Order (Syntax)
In the Kazakh language, word order is important to convey the correct meaning of a sentence. Just like in English, the order of words helps us understand who is doing what. However, Kazakh has its own unique rules.
The basic word order in Kazakh is Subject-Object-Verb (SOV). This means that the person or thing doing the action comes first, followed by the thing or person receiving the action, and finally the action itself.
Examples
- Мен кітапты оқыдым.
- Анасы баланы сүйді.
- Оқушы тапсырманы жазды.
Modifiers like adjectives usually come before the noun they describe. This helps to give more information about the noun.
Examples
- Үлкен үй тұр.
- Кіші қала әдемі.
- Қызыл гүл өсіп тұр.
To ask questions or make negative sentences, Kazakh uses special words or changes the verb, but the basic word order often stays the same.
Examples
- Сен кітапты оқыдың ба?
- Мен үйге бармаймын.
- Ол сабақты оқымады.
In more complex sentences, Kazakh can use conjunctions and other words to connect ideas, but the core SOV order often remains.
Examples
- Мен сабақты оқып болдым, содан кейін үйге бардым.
- Ол кітапты оқыды, бірақ түсінбеді.
- Біз сабақты оқып жатырмыз, сондықтан кешіктік.
