Lietuvių Verb Conjugation Guide
In the Lithuanian language, verbs are words that tell us what someone is doing or what is happening. Just like in English, verbs change their form depending on who is doing the action and when it is happening. This is called conjugation.
Present Tense
In the present tense, verbs describe actions that are happening now. To conjugate verbs in the present tense, we change the ending of the verb depending on who is doing the action.
Important Points
  • For 'I', use the ending '-u'
  • For 'you' (singular), use the ending '-i'
  • For 'he/she/it', use the ending '-a' or '-ia'
  • For 'we', use the ending '-ame' or '-ime'
  • For 'you' (plural), use the ending '-ate' or '-ite'
  • For 'they', use the ending '-a' or '-ia'
Examples
  • einu į mokyklą. (I am going to school.)
  • Tu eini į parduotuvę. (You are going to the store.)
  • Jis eina į parką. (He is going to the park.)
Past Tense
In the past tense, verbs tell us about actions that have already happened. The endings change again to show who did the action.
Important Points
  • For 'I', use the ending '-au'
  • For 'you' (singular), use the ending '-ai'
  • For 'he/she/it', use the ending '-o'
  • For 'we', use the ending '-ome'
  • For 'you' (plural), use the ending '-ote'
  • For 'they', use the ending '-o'
Examples
  • ėjau į mokyklą. (I went to school.)
  • Tu ėjai į parduotuvę. (You went to the store.)

Future Tense
In the future tense, verbs talk about actions that will happen. The endings change to show who will do the action.

  • For 'you' (singular), use the ending '-si'
