Learn Vietnamese Basic Sentence Structure

Tiếng Việt, or Vietnamese, is the language spoken in Vietnam. Just like building with blocks, we can build sentences using words. Let's learn how to put these blocks together to make sentences in Vietnamese.

In a simple sentence, we usually have a subject, a verb, and sometimes an object. The subject is who or what the sentence is about. The verb is the action word, and the object is what is affected by the action.

The subject is the person or thing that does the action. In Vietnamese, the subject usually comes first in the sentence.

The verb tells us what the subject is doing. It is the action part of the sentence.

The object is the thing or person that receives the action. Not all sentences need an object, but when they do, it usually comes after the verb.

When we put a subject, verb, and object together, we can make a complete sentence. Remember, the order is important: Subject first, then Verb, and Object last.
